How we source local food
We source from Montana farmers, ranchers, and food producers and identify the source of products in our online market. During the height of the Montana growing season, most of the produce we purchase comes from farms within 15 miles of downtown Bozeman. In winter, we continue buying available Gallatin Valley storage crops such as carrots, beets, parsnips, and onions.
When local produce is no longer available in the quantity needed, we source produce through Western Montana Growers Cooperative in Missoula and Organically Grown Company in the Pacific Northwest. This policy lets us keep serving buyers year-round while being clear about where each product comes from. Root Cellar Foods began in August 2014. Owner Christina Angell holds a bachelor's degree in Nutrition and a master's degree in Sustainable Food Systems from Montana State University. Her background also includes management experience at the Bozeman Community Food Co-op. Learn more on our team page.
